cyber cave

I have spent the last 8 month in my cyber  cave here at the end of the world south Carolina. I recently visited Barnes and noble here in Charlotte. and i could not believe how big it was as big as a book store in Philadelphia. I was overwhelmed how could i possibly read 10000 books maybe 50000. i begin to believe this was the worlds biggest out house where the world has a bad case of word diahria. Having lived in musita in rural Uganda where a native book can hardly been found a oral society surviving in primitive existence. The point being the internet and cyber space exits even in rural Uganda.  We had TV about 20 channels of digital tv better news coverage than satellite tv here. For 8 dollars a month. internet but bandwidth limited. And good people everywhere i went, bad also but i knew my neighbor of course being the only  white person i was easy to spot. I could go nowhere where the the children would ignore me they all had to come shake my hand and say how are you and after shaking my hand run screaminng in delight. I miss Uganda and Kenya and when good fortune smiles on me once more i will return there to my wife Jane and our 6 children.

Malaria

Well ignoring advice i didn't take my malaria medicine 3 months ago i was stuffed into a taxi and taken to the hospital i was given fluids and quinine and released the next day total cost $28.00 after reaching usa once again i am taken to hospital with malaria after many days and same treatment was released total cost of hospital $25000.  And even though i have medicare i will be penniless for at least one month or more. There is somehow unreality in this. In intensive care at one point i called the nurse and 40 minutes latter they came. At least i am alive but if given a choice i would have accepted death.

Kafuko

This is a new site and a new direction. www.kafuko.com

Traditional Medicine

I am suffering from Post traumatic media withdrawal  I have lived almost 5 months without a TV and 2 months without a computer. As a results I have become entranced with the oral society which i live in. My soon to be wife chews a weed and blows into my eyes. She keeps doing this until she asks does it hurt yet and then spits out the herb. Strange stories of remote healing a fascinating concept. Seeing a society  with only oral traditions adopt the cell phone. Also the backyard producing bananas and of course the tree with produces a ton of fruit, the jack fruit tree. The jack fruit averages about 20lbs but can go up to 80lbs  sitting under the jack fruit tree may sound prosaic but can be dangerous. The fruit has inside about 20-30 pods which contain the seeds about the size of a small walnut. The pods are delicious as  they have a sweet slightly rubbery consistency. There are other interesting foods , cassava, sweet potato and of course corn. Coming from a heavy media based society to an oral society can be frustrating but that is the adventure.

london heathrow

f all the airport i have been to heathrow tops the list of the worst oand if u are handicap i pity you. 62 gates and a train now the fun part is they announce. which gate 1 hour before departure so if ur r at gate one and it is gate 62 you may miss your flight. So i sat myself down for my 11 hour wait after travelling an hour and cursing the fact i brought the extra laptop i made it to the general area and exhausted watched the flights taking of. After 4 hours of this decided to eat and as usual a security type sat down next to me.
I am permanently paranoid i figure it will add a few minutes before i am killed. But that is the fun of traveling talking to CIA agents. I have  exactly 0 affiliations and a muzungo heading to Africa oh well as you can imagine I am the rarest of birds. But my protection is i am simply Dana Quijote a silly old man looking for windmills. Well my strategy works as i sit down at the entrance to the train station. After maybe 5 hours waiting there i get the news all i have to do is take the train. So i get on the train and hear we are out of water and maintenance is on its way. Like this will take a half hour so i immediately change trains and i luckily get to my gate with a lot of extra time but that is just the beginning of the pain as my ass turns into an unstoppable ache. You can only sit so many hours on your ass without sleep for 3 days. But alas i finally arrive in Entebe and some how we have come to this little airport with a stairs down to the tarmac. And the movie raid on Entebe comes to mind oh well movies do have to embellish some i guess. My eyes is infected i am exhausted but finally i have arrived to be with my new wife to be Kafuko.
